Culture Night on the Farm

Tonight at FHE we had a little culture.  The kids drew pictures while I read poetry.
 Here are the results:

Braeburn used india ink to create his cowboy.

Golden Delicious used colored pencils to create her masterpiece.

Nova Spy did the traditional weaponry assortment.  "useful objects".

Prairie Spy went for the "Van Gogh" texture with markers

And Granny Smith gave us the Impressionist Monet watercolor

And for the final bit:  Our favorite poem of the night.

"This is Just to Say"
 I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

by, William Carlos Williams
Incredible.  We were speechless, and unable to press on to "Ode on a grecian urn", at least for tonight.  So much to look forward to.

Methinks it's not really a poem if it doesn't rhyme. So-called "blank verse" is bunk.

The artwork, on the other hand, is very cool. I note that Granny and Prarie are creating in the style of the masters. Braeburn resembles an early C.M. Russell. My level of culture is not high enough to draw a comparison for Golden and Nova....

The kids art creations are great. However Mom and Dad's are missing! Where are they? You know the kids got their talent from somewhere!

I wish I had been home...typical that the kids get cultural experience when I'm not around. True poetry or not...I love the verse.

Very high class FHE! I must say I am quite impressed with the art. My guess is that all that talent is genetic....most things are---you know :)
